Laboratories: problems and solutions
The Space Technology Park offers comprehensive support in tackling technological challenges such as low component durability, material corrosion and the need to optimise production processes.
Thanks to our state-of-the-art laboratories and specialist testing, we help companies in the metalworking, engineering, energy and automotive sectors – as well as many others – to turn challenges into concrete solutions. We offer, amongst other things, fatigue testing, microscopic analysis, corrosion testing and support in the development of new materials and technologies.
Problems encountered in industry:

What can we do, and for whom?
Optimising the service life of machine and equipment components
The metal and machinery sector (foundries, agricultural machinery manufacturers) requires fatigue and static testing to predict the service life of components and avoid costly breakdowns.
Prevention of corrosion and material degradation in chemical and power industry installations
Refineries, manufacturing plants and chemical plants must ensure resistance to aggressive environments – a salt spray chamber enables accelerated corrosion testing.
Quality control and safety of automotive components
Automotive manufacturers (engines, suspension systems) can use hardness and impact testing, as well as microscopic analysis, to qualify materials and obtain type approval for new parts.
Fault diagnosis and prevention in rotating machinery
Wind farms and processing plants often experience damage to bearings or rotors – acoustic cameras and vibration analysis enable the early detection of defects.
The development of lightweight, durable materials for a range of sectors
Companies in the engineering, automotive and aerospace sectors, as well as subcontractors, can utilise microtomography and SEM+EDS to optimise composites and metal alloys.
Quality control of protective coatings and welded joints
Welding companies, manufacturers of metal structures and producers of transmission pipes (e.g. for gas or oil) require testing of coatings and joints in order to meet safety and durability standards.
The development of new materials technologies for the precision engineering industry
Companies in the precision engineering sector can use surface and layer thickness analyses to develop innovative finishes and coatings.
Support for SMEs in the commercialisation of innovative solutions
