A cross-border system for spectral monitoring and reporting of parameters of the River Oder
The project entitled ‘SpectralRiver’ – a cross-border spectral monitoring and reporting system for the parameters of the River Oder – has received funding from the European Union under the Interreg VI A Germany/Brandenburg–Poland Cooperation Programme. The total project budget is: €796,448.40.
The project is being carried out under contract BBPL0300114 as part of Priority 2 – Resilient and sustainable border regions – climate change and biodiversity.
Project duration: from 1 June 2026 to 30 November 2028.

The aim of the SpectralRiver project is to establish a joint, cross-border system for monitoring and reporting on water quality in the River Oder. To achieve this, the current point-source methods for physico-chemical testing will be improved, standardised and supplemented with innovative remote-sensing technologies. Particular emphasis will be placed on the operational use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and satellite data to provide early warning of dangerous blooms of ‘golden algae’ (Prymnesium parvum).
The project activities are aimed, amongst others, at: the authorities responsible for environmental protection, local and national government bodies, universities, research organisations and the general public.
